The Good Samaritan Outreach is committed to helping homeless men in McAlester by providing a meal and a bed to those who have exhausted other options. This is an ongoing need in our community for many who have just been released from prison, found themselves out of work, or who have been placed in need by other life controlling circumstances. We seek to provide not only emergency shelter for our guests, but also to help them make connections with churches and rehabilitative services that can assist them in getting back on their feet.
You can help! Here are some ways...
We need both significant one time gifts and regular monthly contributors. You or your organization can help us with direct financial contributions or by planning a fundraising event for our ministry. All financial gifts to Good Samaritan Outreach are tax deductable. Check out our goals and progress in raising support!
Presentations To Your Organization
We welcome the opportunity to come and present our ministry to your organization or church. This could be simply a booth in your church foyer on a Sunday, or perhaps a 5-10 minute presentation in one of your meetings or worship services.
We serve an evening meal. All of the food we serve is donated and prepared off site. Other than prepared foods delivered on the day they are to be consumed, we can benefit from breakfast type items such as cereal or oatmeal bars that the men can grab as they leave in the mornings. (Typical food drive type items are better taken to Shared Blessings.)
Email Response Team
Join our email list of volunteers. Those on the list are alerted to needs at the shelter. If we have a repair that needs to be made or a need for specific items, you will be alerted. As soon as someone with the necessary skills or items responds to a request, the rest of the list is informed that the need has been met. Just click here to sign up!
'Intentional neighbors' are teams of 2-4 men who agree to work with individual men staying at the shelter. These 'neighbors' are connected with one of our guests and seek to develop a relationship with them that might open doors for ministry and tangible forms of assistance.
Church Services & Bible Studies
You and/or your church are invited to provide programming for the men. You can participate occasionally or on a regular weekly or monthly schedule.
We are looking for individuals who can offer classes or other forms of training in money management and other life skills to our guests.
We would welcome groups of men from local churches and organizations to come and grill burgers, or fry fish, or whatever else they are equipped to do. You can plan for preaching or singing to go along with the food, or simply use it as an opportunity to fellowship with our guests.
Day Labor & Work Opportunities
We are always in need of opportunities for our guests who do not have jobs to work and earn a little money. We also welcome opportunities for them to volunteer and give back to the community.
